Grammar Translation Method (GTM)

·       The grammar method is grammatical rules and grammatical paradigms.

     The translation method is translating target to native / source language.

So, grammar translation method is a method of teaching foreign language that is teacher as center of learning that is the authority in the classroom.

·       There are some of techniques grammar translation method

1)   Translation of a literary passage.

2)  Reading comprehension question, here the teacher gives some questions after the student.

3)  Antonyms/Synonyms (finding them in passage)

4)  Cognates

5)  Deductive application of rule (using rule that directly based on passage).

6)  Memorization (memorizing some new words).

7)  Use words in sentences (making a new sentence, use word based from the passage.

8)  Composition (take the main idea from the passage).

·       Advantages

Don’t need expect teacher.

·       Disadvantages

No interaction between student  with student the object only comes from teacher. Do what teacher said.

·       Conclusion
