Task Based Instruction (TBI)

Task Based Instruction
Task Based Instruction is a method teaching that wait instructions from the teacher.
Teacher’s role
1.      Teacher introduce the topic
2.      Gives clear instructions for the task stage
3.      Might help students to recall some useful language
4.      Students can takes notes and prepare for the task as follow:
a.       Planning a report
b.      Practicing role play
c.       Writing a questionnaire
d.      Brainstorming

 





5.      Teacher gives instructions to students for make procedure/perform/presentation their task in groups as follow:
a)      Producing a poster
b)      Performing a role play
c)      Having a debate
d)     Students use their own language resources

 


6.      Teacher monitors and offers encouragement

Advantages
§  Students are free of language control
§  A natural context is developed from the students experience
§  The language explored a rises from the students needs
§  It is a strong communicative approach where students spend a lot of time communicating

Disadvantages
§  Not for beginners
§  Can’t predict  or guarantee what the students will learn
§  Some students might be unwilling to speak while others speak too much
§  Restricting their experience to single pieces of target language is unnatural.

Conclusion
7.      Task Based Instruction is a method teaching that wait instructions from the teacher. Here  Students can takes notes and prepare for the task likes planning a report, practicing role play,writing a questionnaire, brainstorming and so on.
